Q: Do you have a brick and mortar store?
A: A brick and mortar store is Spool’s phase two! We definitely want to open a storefront in the city of Pittsburgh so that we can expand Spool to include more fabric, classes & workshops, sewing studio rental, social events, and more. We cannot wait to be part of Pittsburgh’s robust creative community and to meet you!
Q: I am a local customer, can I pick up my order to avoid shipping costs?
A: Yay, we love to hear from our local customers! Unfortunately, at this time, we will not be able to accommodate local pick up of your order. We will happily offer a local pick-up option when Spool expands to a brick and mortar store. If, however, you happen to be attending one of our UNWIND events, you may purchase fabric prior to the event and request event pickup in lieu of shipping.
Q: I want a specific fabric that you do not currently carry, can I special order it from Spool?
A: We understand that we won’t be able to please everyone with what we have to offer at Spool. That’s ok. We want to love everything we carry and offer a carefully curated selection of fabrics. At this time, it is unlikely that we can take special orders. If one of our usual items is currently out of stock and you’d like to see it back in the shop, do let us know and we can tell you if and when you can hope to see it in stock again.
Q: Can I order a fat quarter cut of fabric?
A: Fat quarters (a quarter of a yard cut to approximately 18″x22″) are appropriate for quilting and mid-weight fabrics, but some of the apparel fabrics we will not offer as fat quarters. If you wish to purchase a fat quarter, simply purchase a quarter yard and notify us of your request in the comment section when placing your order.
Q: What is double gauze?
A: Double gauze is two layers of of gauze that are woven simultaneously. While a single layer of gauze is very sheer, the double layer allows the fabric to be suitable for clothing. Double gauze is ideal for summer apparel and baby clothes as it is lightweight, airy, and very soft to the touch. Don’t limit yourself to using double gauze for clothing as it also ideal for lightweight quilts, blankets, and scarves. You can easily find Spool’s double gauze offerings by clicking here.
Q: Will I be charged sales tax on my fabric purchase?
A: Pennsylvania residents will be charged a 6% sales tax. In addition, if you live in Allegheny County, you will also be charged a 1% local sales tax.
Q: I have a problem with my online order, what should I do?

Q: What type of payment do you accept?
A: At this time, all payments are processed through Paypal. You do not need a Paypal account in order to make a credit or debit card purchase on our site.
